Dowa President Delivers Lecture at International Conference in India

Masao Yamada, President and Representative Director of Dowa Holdings Co., Ltd., gave a lecture at the Wastech International Summit & Expo in Gandhinagar, India. Sponsored primarily by the state government of Gujarat, this international conference was held on November 21 and 22, 2014.


The aim of the conference was to promote sustainable development and explore solutions, for waste management problems that India now faces, as a populous nation undergoing rapid economic development, based on the 4R principle. . The conference was held in advance of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2015, which will also be sponsored by the state government to attract further business investment in Gujarat.


On the day of the conference, Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat, was in attendance. There was an enthusiastic discussion of waste management for sustainable development of Gujarat, which has achieved economic development under the term of the previous Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, who is now the current Prime Minister of India.


Yamada's lecture was entitled, "Experience & Best Practices in Waste Management in Japan."
He outlined,

  1. The history of waste management efforts since the start of the high growth period in Japan,
  2. Technology to minimize final processing volume based on waste volume reduction through intermediate processing and cement recycling,
  3. New initiatives involving Waste to Energy systems,

and his lecture was well received.
